Cromwell Cruiser Tank Turret Part, What is this part and what is it for?
Hopefully this link works, If not, If you want you can go to Toadmans Tank Pictures to the Allied Photo Gallery and click on Cromwell Tank and looking directly towards the gun breech, It’s on or near the right side turret wall, is white and almost looks like a Tank 1919 Browning Machine gun. On the opposite side (near left side looking directly at the main gun breech) there is mounted a coaxial Besa Machine gun. I then thought (as it had a trigger) I wounder if it fires the 75mm Primary gun, but then I found the main gun firing button/trigger connected or next to the 75mm gun on the same (right hand) side, so I still don’t know. So if anyone has any idea I’d love to hear from you, Cheers John.

The device pictured looks to me to be a cylinder that can be used to over ride the Gunner if need be. It looks as if the Tank Commander would use this to raise or lower the main gun over the Gunners controls. It looks as if you pull the handle to you the gun will raise up and push it back to the position it is in it will lower the main gun. I am only guessing as I have not been in a Cromwell Tank but to me it makes the best sense. I can’t think of anything else it would be. I do know a lot about tanks so I am making an educated guess.
